In recent months, an increasing number of Tesla owners have put stickers on their cars to report their disapproval of the founder and CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, and her work in the Trump administration.
Matthew Hiller, owner of the Madpuffersickers online store, listed the sticker: “I bought this before we know that Elon was crazy”, on his store in 2023, after being disillusioned by the way Musk ran X.
“(Musk) became somehow a tyrant and somehow pushing disinformation. And because of that, I just wanted nothing to do with him or his brand.”
Hiller, who works in an aquarium in Hawaii, had just sold fish stickers in his online store as a brain. A few years ago, he planned to buy a Tesla.
“I thought they were very cool. I liked the technology. I liked the fact that they were good for the environment,” said Hiller.
But finally, he decided not to do it and added this first sticker to the owners of Tesla who shared his feeling about Musk.
“I mean, some things are more important than technology, you know, like, I just don’t want to support someone who is so against whom I am and what I think,” said Hiller. “It was a choice and I didn’t want to be confused for someone who supported him or agree with him.”
Since then, he has added more stickers, especially those who read “Anti Elon Tesla Club”, “Elon has killed my resale value” and “Elon is a Dogebag”. Sales took off roughly when Musk became an element of President Trump’s presidential campaign. The Maduffersickers have collected more than $ 100,000 on a 30 -day section between January and February, Hiller said.
He added that he had sold 70,000 stickers, magnets and assignments on Amazon, Ebay, Etsy and Redbubble.
About half of Americans have negative views of Tesla and Elon Musk, according to an April CNBC survey. Hiller’s sales reflect public feeling about Musk – as well as Teslas sales, which have decreased spectacularly.
Car company income Degeneum by 20% in the first quarter of the year compared to last year.
Tesla blame this on factors such as customers who await the new version of model Y. Industry analysts say that it is also because of the way customers see Musk, in particular its action of washing of government with the unity known as DOGE, or “Department of Government Effectiveness”.

Hiller says that the peaks of sales were correlated with the appearance of Musk in the news. When Musk was seen on stage during a Trump gathering – he said that he had gone from 50 to 100 stickers per day, for the sale of hundreds per day. When musk made a gesture somehow recalling a Hi nazi During an inauguration event in Trump in January, Hiller’s sales reached 500 a day.
Hiller has heard of customers who do not necessarily disapprove of musk using stickers to keep safe – following Several attacks Against Tesla vehicles and dealers.
“Sometimes I do people in my Etsy store, they buy a sticker as a gift, then they can write a little note with the recipient’s gift,” said Hiller. “And from time to time, I read the notes and I see one who says as:” Happy birthday, of dad. It is to protect you in the mean streets of “”

He also says that stickers are not only a phenomenon of blue state.
“I am sort of following the cities where they came from. So, of course, I saw a lot of California, San Francisco was huge and New York, a lot of blue states,” said Hiller. “But then, over time, and as everything evolved with what was going on with Elon, I started to see all the states, you know, Oklahoma, Missouri, Montana. I started to take Puerto Rico. It is not limited to the United States either. I sent in so many countries that I lost the track.”
Hiller says he does not want to leave his job at the aquarium to sell full -time stickers.
“If it ended tomorrow, I’m going completely,” he said. “You know, I have not decided to do it. And it is certainly not my business plan in the future.
