Liverpool is a step to win the title of the Premier League after Arsenal failed against Crystal Palace on Wednesday. Arsenal had the opportunity to extend the expectation of Liverpool at least until next month, but their 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace means that Liverpool is now a few centimeters from winning the title of Premier League, while the hopes of the trophy for the Gunners have almost collapsed for one more season.
Liverpool Premier League title scenarios
Arsenal started the match with 66 points in 33 games, while Liverpool collected 79 points compared to the same number of games. Five victories of their remaining matches would have enabled Arsenal to exceed the totalpool total, ending on 81 points. If Liverpool had to lose all his last five games and stay on 79, Arsenal could have won the title – provided they won the five, including the match against Crystal Palace.
However, now Arsenal can only earn a maximum of 12 points compared to the last four games, which means that they can only reach 79 points in total. Liverpool already has 79 points and a draw against Tottenham Hotspur in Anfield on Sunday will do the new Premier League champion.
Even a draw would not have much importance because they would become champion with only one more point of their matches.
Can Arsenal still win the title of the Premier League?
Yes. There is a bizarre way, but for that, Liverpool will have to lose all their matches and Arsenal will have to win all theirs. Four victories in four games will bring Arsenal to 79 points. Liverpool already has 79 points. So, if the two teams end the season of the first League 2024-25 on 79 points, the difference in goals (GD) will be used to choose the winner.
Currently, Liverpool has an advance with a positive goal difference of 44 while Arsenal has a GD of 34.
Arsenal will have to improve their difference in goals and hope that Liverpool will lose all his remaining matches as they win their next four games to win the title of Premier League. However, such a scenario is very unlikely.
Arsenal vs palace wrap
Interestingly, Arsenal was the first to take the lead against Palace at the Emirates stadium after Jakub Kiwior scored in the third minute and Leandro Trossard added another half to do so 2-1 after Ebelechi Eze equalized for the external team.
However, Arsenal could not keep their advance twice and the replacement for the Jean-Philippe Mateta palace marked a sensational equalizer in the 83rd minute to seal a 2-2 draw for his team.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was livid with his team and reduced the lack of consistency.
“We are disappointed with the result and the performances. We did not find enough consistency in the actions to dominate the game. It is part of the football and cost us two points. Today, they were very organized and deserved by credit. We have to do much better,” said Arteta after the match.
Arsenal, however, is still in competition for the Champions League and will face PSG in the semi-finals.
