The Jamshedpur FC beat Mohun Bagan Super Giant by 2-1 during the first leg of their match in the semi-finals at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 on Thursday.
Khalid Jamil’s team owned only 26.9% of the possession against the winners of the Shield League in this match. However, they were effective in converting their opportunities, marking twice the four shots they have taken care of with the winner from Javi Hernandez in injury.
A hectic beginning of the first half saw the Jamshedpur FC acquire the advantage of the competition on the air prowess of Javi Siverio and Stephen Eze. The awareness of the imposing defender inside the 18 yards box saw him delivered a pass to Siverio, parked very close to the 24th minute. The Spaniard had to simply nod his head in the lower right corner because the defense of MBSG could not thwart the affair game, thus conceding a vital lead to the red minors.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant triggered their intention almost immediately, moving in a consistent manner in tandem to ask questions at the Jamshedpur FC Backline. Greg Stewart’s clinical eye for a pass has met Alberto Rodriguez inside the penalty zone, and although the defender made delivery, he could only make the transverse bar vibrate with his possible efforts.
MBSG had its decisive moment in front of the goal in the 37th minute, gracked with an impeccable free kick from Jason Cummings. The striker put on a multitude of roles in the current campaign, which often left the bench to capitalize on the tired legs of the opposition and the late objectives of the bag. Tonight was a little different, however, when he got up on set tasks and buried the opportunity with enormous precision in the upper right corner with his left foot to equalize the scores.
The visitors started the second half with a similar momentum, while Airudh Thapa served Stewart a well -welded bullet in the left side of the box, that the former star of the Jamshedpur FC could not send to the back of the net due to a weakened final effort in the 51st minute.
Just before the hour mark, they aimed to maximize Rodriguez’s air capabilities with Liston Colaco delivering a fatal side ball that the defender obtained at the end, but ultimately poorly oriented towards the left side of the goal. In the 71st minute, Colaco trusted Asish Rai to hammer a remote shot, but the right foot effort on the right side of the field was not found on the target.
Although the Jamshedpur FC has passed a large part of the pressure absorbing the second try, they found the second objective of their brand style after a quick break in additional time. The red minors sculpted the MBSG structure with a chain of passes which was performed perfectly. The sequence crowned with Ritwik Das finding Javi Hernández in a space pocket in the center of the box that the Spaniard pulled high in the center of the net to catch his side an important advantage in the next match.
