With only 60% of the $ 230 million contract from Deshaun Watson, Jimmy Haslam, the owner of Browns, admitted what everyone knew. Trade – undoubtedly the worst unique transaction in the history of NFL – was a complete and total failure.
Haslam added that, ultimately, the property should be held responsible.
Ok, very good. They are responsible. What does that even mean?
The owners cannot be dismissed, such as the CEO of 49ers Jed York once rightly observed. And no fans base will be collectively deprived of assisting or watching or following your favorite team long enough to force the property to sell.
So it’s meaningless. Keep responsible property, without responsibility. And no consequences.
Of course, they look stupid. But they have already done so. The only difference is that they admitted madness. There is no other negative impact for property. Never.
NFL franchises print money, without risk. No drawback. No possibility that the company is bankrupt. Collectively, the NFL kicks the ass, to the point where a franchise could not go bankrupt even if it tried.
This does not change the fact that certain fans are blocked with dysfunctional teams led by owners who do not know how to manage a team properly. For 13 years of Browns property by haslams, this fact is as clear as possible.
So what will Browns fans do on this? Absolutely nothing. Identical to fans of another team that does not find a way to even become accidentally competitive.
