ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Missouri – St. Louis County is home to nearly 100 municipalities. The largest, in terms of area covered, is almost triple the size of all the county’s counterparts individually.
According to the United States Census Bureau, St. Louis County covers 508 square miles. Its largest municipality represents almost 13% of this territory and is the only one to fill at least 10% of the county’s footprint.
According to census figures, the largest city in St. Louis County is the county’s western suburbs. Wildwood, Missouri with a size of 66.68 square miles.
How big is Wildwood, Missouri? For starters, it beats the city of St. Louis (61.72 square miles) in terms of total area.

The closest city in St. Louis County is Chesterfield, which covers 31.84 square miles. After that, the next closest is Maryland Heights, which spans 21.39 square miles.
Based on these comparisons, Wildwood is at least double the size of every municipality in St. Louis County and at least triple the size of every municipality in the county except Chesterfield.

Wildwood is home to nearly 35,000 residents, which also ranks it among the top five most populous cities in St. Louis County. The city is known for its conservation and outdoor recreation with attractions such as Rockwoods Preserve, Bluff View Park, and Hidden Valley Ski Resort.
Wildwood was featured last year in a Living St. Louis YouTube video, not only recognized as the largest suburb in St. Louis County, but also for offering large subdivisions and suburban homes, in addition to scenic rural.

According to the city’s website, Wildwood lands were historically vital to “nomadic Native Americans, who lived near major streams and rivers.” Wildwood became an incorporated city in 1995 and is sometimes identified on Google Maps by its 11 historic communities, such as Glencoe or Grover.
