How a “low interpreter” label can worsen things for dismissed workers

  • Meta started to dismiss people, after saying that it would reduce jobs by targeting “high -performance stockings”.
  • Microsoft also carried out performance -related cuts in January.
  • Releases can be traumatic for workers, and the added tag of “weak interpreter” can worsen things.

The “low performers” are in the shooting line.

Meta started to dismiss people on Monday after saying that he would target his lowest artists. Microsoft also sent dismissal letters last month, telling people that their performance had “not complied with minimum performance standards”.

The announcements of the two companies in January on dismissals sparked an online debate. The lowest performance targeting can be logical for the low lines of companies, but advertising surrounding layoffs can give these negative labels which can worsen the difficulties of being dismissed.

After Meta’s announcement in January about the implementation of “low permanters”, Jan Tegze, a technological recruiter based in the Czech Republic, wrote in an article on LinkedIn that a “little performance” in Meta could to be a rockstar elsewhere “.

But now, these “people must hunt with this one with this label which hangs them. Each recruiter, each recruitment manager will see these big titles, “he added.

Jennifer Delski, founder and CEO of Rising Team and management teacher at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, said on LinkedIn that he was “reasonable to let people opt for lower performances than the others in the team and Share this reasoning with them.

“However, public brand employees as a low interpreters do not serve anyone-not the individuals, not the remaining team, and not the reputation of the company,” she added.

“This will respect and damage the career of many people. It is useless and punitive,” said Jonathan Shottan, product manager and content at Tonal.

Previous research has suggested that finding a job can be more difficult for relaxed workers due to the stigma they may meet among potential employers.

And with job seekers also confronted with a slowing job market and new obstacles such as the constant expansion deployment of AI in workplaces, the “low interpreter” tag can make the search for ‘Even more delicate use.

Others, however, defended Meta and Microsoft’s announcements.

“Who would you shoot? Your best performers?” A LinkedIn user wrote in response to Tegze’s message. “There is not a business in the world that would let go of anyone who did not think they are their lower artists.”

“And if … they are” in fact unaccoming performances, “said another.” Stop jumping on the Let’s Bash Zuk train, an apparent reference to the meta-PDG Mark Zuckerberg, who announced the layoffs In an internal note sent on January 14 and seen by Business Insider.

He told employees that he had “decided to raise the performance management bar” and act quickly to “move the low performance”.

The memo said that cuts would affect 5% of the company’s workforce, which is equivalent to around 3,600 roles.

Ethan Evans, a former Vice-President of Amazon, had some advice for people taken in dismissals to make sure to give himself the best chances of going back to work.

Writing on X the day after Meta’s announcement, he advised people affected by cuts targeting the weak performers to explain carefully and openly their situation to hiring managers.

Evans said that it can be natural for recruiters to wonder if an interviewed person has performance problems they should avoid and that “your ability to respond calmly and confidently will have as much as the real content of your response “.

“If your whole team or your division has been cut, this is the strongest story. Be clear about it and say:” My whole team has been cut. “Present them to a news that checks your assertion if you can,” he said.

He added: “Never Badmouth your former boss or your business.”

“Like attendance, nobody wants to start a relationship with someone who does not have on their ex.”

Business Insider contacted Meta and Microsoft to comment.
