“The adults were able to get out of the vehicle and save the girl – one of the twins – unfortunately the twin boy could not be freed from the vehicle, crushed by the cement truck,” he said.
The driver of the Ford pickup truck was identified as the twins’ 54-year-old grandmother, while the front passenger was their mother, Cheng said.
Both women and the young girl were transported to a local hospital in stable condition, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver of the cement truck was potentially injured but refused to be taken to hospital, according to Cheng.
She “showed no signs of impairment or intoxication” and there were no signs of speeding, he said. “She is upset by the incident and is cooperating with the investigation.”
Cheng said investigations into the accident are continuing. “We want to do a full investigation to see why she lost control or any possible contributing factors to the device.”
