‘House of the Dragon’: Tom Glynn-Carney explains what to expect from King Aegon II in season 2 (Exclusive)

Dragon House Star Tom Glynn-Carney is excited for fans to see his character truly play a role of power and strength in the upcoming season.

Glynn Carney attended the season two premiere at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York Monday, and spoke with ET about what’s in store for King Aegon Targaryen.

According to the 29-year-old actor, his character’s growth in Season 2 will mostly be about “finding his feet” and “getting comfortable with what it means to step into the king’s shoes and wear the crown.” , sit on the Iron Throne – and actually have a purpose.

“We see Aegon, for the first time ever, have a purpose,” he added enthusiastically.

Dragon House is a prequel series to the HBO megahit Game Of Thronesand is adapted from the novel Fire and blood by author George RR Martin.

It tells the story of House Targaryen, the family dynasty that ruled the seven kingdoms of Westeros hundreds of years before the events of Game Of Thrones.

Dragon Housethe first season ended in October 2022 with a dramatic twistas alliances were forged in the battle between the Dark Council – those who supported Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) claim to the throne – and the Green Council, the conspirators who aided in King Aegon’s ascension after death of King Viserys (played by Paddy Considine).

“My name is on the lease of the castle,” Glynn-Carney said of King Aegon. “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: it’s just more fun to be king! So I’m going to fight for it.”

And the fight could be more epic than fans have ever seen!

ET spoke with showrunner Ryan Condal on Monday, who said this season is also set to feature some of the biggest, boldest action sequences in franchise history.

“These are two of the most important things we’ve ever filmed,” Condal teased. “They involve a lot of dragons and fire and action, and it’s exciting! I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

Condal previously said The Hollywood Reporter last year, viewers will “meet five new dragons” this season, which will no doubt play a role in the massive sequences viewers can expect in upcoming episodes.

Season 2 of Dragon House debuts June 16 on HBO.
