The season finale of House of the Dragon has been leaked online just two days before it premiered on HBO.
According to an HBO spokesperson, the highly anticipated episode of the hit Game of Thrones prequel appears to be coming from a distribution partner in Europe, the Middle East or Africa.
“We are aware that the tenth episode of House of the Dragon has been posted on illegal torrent sites,” a statement read. “HBO is aggressively monitoring and pulling these copies from the internet. We are disappointed that this illegal action has disrupted the viewing experience for the show’s loyal fans, who will be able to view a blank version of the episode when it premieres on Sunday. .
This is the first leak of the season, although its previous series suffered greatly from it throughout its tenure, especially in recent seasons when hackers threatened to release the season seven finale unless a multi-million dollar ransom demand is met.
House of the Dragon became a ratings hit for HBO, averaging around 29 million viewers each episode across all platforms.
Speaking of the Vanity Fair finale, director Greg Yaitanes said, “If I’ve got five things I’ve got, in 30 years [of directing] I’m most proud of is absolutely on this list.
The show received an early second season renewal and its source writer George RR Martin is hoping for more. “It’s going to take four full seasons of 10 episodes each to do Dance of the Dragons justice, start to finish,” he wrote on his site.
HBO’s other upcoming projects in the Game of Thrones universe include a series based on the character of Jon Snow and a prequel series based on House of the Dragon’s Lord Corlys Velaryon.
