House catches ablaze in – The San Diego Union-Tribune
A fire, apparently started in a garage, burned a home in Vista Tuesday evening.
The fire was reported around 4:45 p.m. at the residence on Eucalyptus Avenue, near Alta Vista Drive, according to witnesses.
Homeowner Ken Seifert and a friend were inside when the fire broke out. He said he heard a loud boom and then ran downstairs to his garage, according to neighbor and veteran photojournalist Don Bartletti.
“Obviously there was an explosion in the garage,” Seifert said. “I took a look inside. I could see flames near the refrigerator and a lot of smoke was starting to come out. I hurried up. I found a pipe. I started spraying it, but it got so bad so quickly that I singed the hair on my head and arms.
Seifert said the flames intensified and a propane tank exploded. He also said there were other flammable materials in the garage, such as paint cans, cans of WD-40 and lithium batteries in his electric bikes, according to Bartletti.
“I moved here in 2000. I am retired. Now it looks like I’m going to have to find a job,” Seifert told Bartletti.
The fire was contained to the house. No one was injured, Bartletti said.
