She then tries to suffocate the woman in the bathroom. The footage then cuts to the bedroom, where Arrington slaps the lady in the mouth while wearing his hygiene gloves.

Arrington raises his fists and appears to threaten the patient as she towers over her wheelchair. The elderly woman is visibly distressed.

She said her family set up the nanny cam to understand why her mother was suffering bruises, and it took several attempts to detect the abuse.

Cameras also captured staff robbing his mother, who has been a patient at the facility for about five years.

She said her mother has since been moved to another assisted living facility and is improving, but she still feels traumatized by the incident.

Sheriff Swanson said during the press conference that the patient had been diagnosed with “severe dementia.”

“(The victim) has no idea what’s going on,” he said. “She can’t process what we deal with on a regular basis.”

“You see the vulnerability of the victim and the fact that she is hit with a two to three pound dirty diaper,” he added when the horrific footage was broadcast.

“But if that’s not enough, when she put her hand to his throat to strangle him, it can kill people, especially a 93-year-old woman.”

Prosecutor Leyton said he was “appalled, disgusted and very angry” after seeing what happened at the care home where elderly people should have been protected.

“I told Chief Assistant Phillips, ‘We’re going to have to charge this woman as severely as possible,’ he said at the news conference.

Leyton said Arrington was charged with torture with intent to cause cruel or extreme physical or mental pain and suffering, punishable by up to life in prison.

She is also charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult, punishable by up to 15 years in prison, and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation, punishable by maximum sentence of 10 years.

Swanson said Arrington had no history of violence and his only run-in with the law involved minor shoplifting offenses.
