Hop aboard this Mercedes-AMG One as it hits 215 mph on the highway

Turns out, 1,049 horsepower is more than enough to reach triple-digit speeds on the world’s fastest highway.

The AMG One hypercar was designed to take corners. Mercedes says it’s a Formula 1 car for the road, after all. But with 1,049 horsepower, the straight-line speed is also immense. Here’s the proof.

THE Gercollector The YouTube channel filmed a recent outing with their own Mercedes-AMG One as they drove it on the German Autobahn, where there is no speed limit. There, the car was able to reach a top speed of 347 km/h (215 mph) before having to slow down to accommodate traffic. That’s incredibly fast.

All that horsepower comes from a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 from AMG’s Formula 1 program, paired with three electric motors (two up front and one in the rear connected to the engine). The engine can rev to 11,000 rpm, and since there’s virtually no soundproofing inside, you can hear every ignition.

AMG claims the One’s top speed is 219 mph, but considering how hard the car pulled when the driver had to take off, we suspect the actual top speed is even higher. With a kerb weight of just 1.5kg and an active aerodynamic system that can fold to eliminate drag, we could see the One AMG zipping along at 225 mph with enough room, judging by these images.

The noises emitted by the AMG One are equally impressive. In addition to the V6 whine, the car delivers a satisfying electric motor whine into the cabin as it cruises leisurely through the German countryside in all-electric mode. You can also hear the click of the gear lever as the car shifts through the bespoke sequential transmission.
