A homeless man has been arrested after spilling an “unidentified white powdery substance” near the lobby of the Joliet police department this week, authorities said.
At around 7:52 p.m. on Wednesday, employees of the Joliet police department found an unidentified white powdery substance near the station’s lobby, according to a statement.
Police said the Joliet Fire Department had been notified and attended the scene, where the lobby was evacuated and closed to the public. The substance was treated as a hazardous material until it was identified as a “harmless food supplement powder”.
After reviewing surveillance footage, detectives determined Demarkus Bailey, 44, was a suspect, police said. Bailey returned to the police department on Thursday and was taken into custody.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
