Hollywood Captain Kirk William Shatner, 90, flies into space

VAN HORN, Texas (AP) – Hollywood Captain Kirk William Shatner, 90, has soared into space in a convergence of science fiction and science reality. He left Wednesday morning for the last frontier aboard a ship built by Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin company.

The hero of “Star Trek” becomes the oldest person to pilot a rocket.

The fully automatic spacecraft is expected to reach an altitude of 66 miles above the West Texas desert. The top-to-bottom flight is expected to last around 10 minutes, with Shatner and his three fellow travelers parachuting to Earth in the capsule.

This is a developing story.
