CNN commentator Adam Kinzinger said Monday during his network’s special coverage of the election certification that history will remember January 6, 2021, as an “attempted coup.”
Host Anderson Cooper said: “This is how we remember this day now. The question is whether history will remember it this way, in four or 40 years. Congressman Kinzinger, you were in the House. You tweeted at 4:30 p.m., four years ago on this day, you tweeted that this was an attempted coup. Do you think history will remember this as it actually happened? »
Kinzinger said: “Yes. I do. Look, we’re in this emotion, Donald Trump was defeated and look, he’s convinced his base that the election was stolen from him. This generated four years of intense anger that led them to sincerely believe that this Deep State bullshit was happening. He’s going to be president now for four years. He will become the owner of everything that happens in the economy, of everything that happens in the world. That “we’ve been robbed” excitement will wear off. History has this incredible ability to accurately reflect the events of that day. »
He added: “Even though today it may be a little surreal to be here four years later and returning Donald Trump to the presidency, history will not be kind to him. I’m glad you brought up my tweet. President Johnson tweeted this on January 6, 2021. “I unambiguously condemn any form of violent protest, anyone who committed violence today should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. » This will be a question when Donald Trump takes office and decides if he wants to prosecute the people who investigated what happened on January 6 and embarrassed him and does he want to pardon those who did what President Johnson said, just four years ago, they should be prosecuted.
