Former President James Earl “Jimmy” Carter Jr. was remembered by his grandson, Jason Carter, who noted that “the former president’s legacy will live on.”
At Carter’s funeral at the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta, Georgia, Jason Carter, who serves as chairman of the Carter Center Board of Trustees, spoke about how his grandfather’s spirit filled the Carter Presidential Center, adding that the people who worked were the “real guardians” of his grandparents’ legacy.
The funeral of the former president, who died at the end of December 2024 at the age of 100, precedes those which will take place at the United States Capitol on Tuesday. The former president “will lie in state at the Capitol” the next day, according to ABC News.
“We will have many opportunities this week to honor my grandfather, but it was important for all of us to stop here,” Jason Carter said. “These buildings, as you all know, are filled with his life, not just because they are a museum of his life. And not just because there is a collection of his beloved paintings here, but his spirit fills this place.
“And the real reason this spirit fills this place is because of the people standing here,” Jason Carter continued. “The people in this room, from the library, from the museum, and from the Carter Center itself, you are all the true stewards of my grandparents’ legacy.”
Jason Carter continued to admit that although his family had been “thinking” about his grandfather’s passing for some time, he knew in his heart that the former president’s legacy would live on, “not only because millions of people he touched. » but because of the hard work and spirit of the workers at the Carter Presidential Center.
“We’ve all been thinking about this day and preparing for it for a long time, but it’s obviously still difficult for all of us. For us, my family, and I’m sure I can see it in your faces, for a lot of you, I appreciate it,” Jason Carter said. “But just know that while we mourn the passing of my grandfather, I know in my heart and all of you, that his legacy will live on, not only because of the millions of people he touched across the world, but very specifically because of your mind and your knowledge, and the work and background that you do every day.
