Himachal receives snow and precipitation, weather bureau issues orange alert

Wheat is produced on 3.30 lakh hectare in the state with a production target of 6.17 lakh MT (metric ton) while an area of 82,000 hectares is proposed to be covered with vegetables with a production target of 1,759,000 MT.
The state experienced an overall rainfall deficit of about 36% from January 1 to February 28, which was nearly 100% in December of last year.
About 10-15% of total crops in Rabi have been damaged in the state due to insufficient rains and maximum damage of up to 33% has been reported in rainfed areas, agriculture department officials have claimed. .
Light to moderate rains hit several parts of the state during which Sundernagar received 34mm of rain followed by Mandi at 26mm, Dalhousie 24mm, Chauri 21mm, Narkanda 19mm, Palampur 14mm, Dharmshala, Pandoh and Nahan 13mm each, Kothi and Janjehli 12mm each, Gohar 11mm, Aghar, Shillaro, Banjar and Karsog 10mm each.
The local meteorological office (MeT) issued an orange warning for thunderstorms, lightning and hail on March 24 in six districts including Una, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Solan and a yellow warning for the same in all six other districts of the state.
He also predicted a period of rain in the region until March 28.
