Hillary Clinton accuses her compatriots of having cost her election in 2016

Hillary Clinton makes new excuses for why she lost the 2016 election in an upcoming book — this time blaming it on her fellow women who abandoned her because she wasn’t “perfect.”

The former secretary of state said she lost voters after launching an investigation into her private email server, according to an article published Friday by the New York Times.

Clinton’s comments are adapted from an interview she gave in February for the upcoming book “The Fall of Roe: The Rise of a New America.”

In it, the former First Lady argued that Democrats underestimated the growing strength of anti-abortion forces that would ultimately dismantle the historic Dobbs decision in 2022.

“I just think that most of us who support women’s rights and privacy and the right to make these difficult decisions ourselves, you know, we just couldn’t believe what was happening. And as a result, they slowly, surely and very effectively got what they wanted,” Clinton said.

“Our team was complacent and took it for granted and thought it would never go away.”

Clinton pointed out that if she had still been in the Senate, she would have worked to block the confirmation of Trump-appointed judges Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, all of whom overturned the decision.

“The interview was dominated by the understanding that had she won the White House, Roe would very likely have remained a fundamental part of American life,” the book’s authors wrote.

Clinton reflected on the role sexism played in the 2016 campaign, saying FBI Director James Comey reopened a last-minute investigation into her private email to raise questions about her judgment, calling it ” extremely negligent.”

The widely publicized decision cost her the race – and the women’s vote, she speculated.

“But once he did that to me, the people, the voters who left me, were women,” she told the Times.

“They left me because they just couldn’t take a chance on me, because as a woman I’m supposed to be perfect. They were willing to take risks against Trump – who had a long list of flaws, let’s say, to illustrate his imperfection – because he was a man and they could imagine a man as president and commander in chief.”

On the other hand, Trump’s notorious accusations of sexual misconduct and assault have failed to sway his voting base.

He insisted on a promise to overturn Roe if elected, which helped him win the election.

“Politically, he rallied to the right on abortion and was handsomely rewarded,” Clinton said.
