Hesperia high school on lockdown after report of student with gun

A San Bernardino County high school was placed on lockdown Tuesday after the school became aware of a student on campus with a loaded firearm.

According to the Hesperia Unified School District, Oak Hills High School administrators became aware of a student with a gun and immediately contacted school district police to lock down the campus and apprehend the student . No injuries were reported.

“Law enforcement and administration quickly located and arrested the student and recovered a loaded firearm on campus,” the district said in a statement.

Video obtained by television station KTLA shows a brief chase involving a district police officer. After the student’s arrest, the lockdown was lifted and the school informed parents of the incident.

Freshman Xavier Ramos told KTLA he knows students who saw the gun.

“There were two people in class and one of them showed his gun to my friend,” he told the TV station. “When he did, they were escorted by police outside and they ran.”
