‘He’s gone’ – Mauricio Pochettino gives awkward interview as fans think Chelsea’s time is up

Mauricio Pochettino gave some strange answers in his post-match interview after Chelsea secured victory over Tottenham.

Despite Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Spurs at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night, Pochettino looked like a man in doubt about his future.

The Argentine, who has one year left on his contract, admitted his fate was not in his hands in an interview with Sky Sports before stepping down.

He said after the match: “Enough is enough. All managers need time to translate their ideas and philosophy.

“It’s not my decision (if I have time). I don’t know (if I’m judged by the owners).

“It is difficult to see every week that I am scrutinized and judged.

“It’s not up to me to decide to be here or not to be here (next season).

“I can’t say anything. What I can say is that after the decision, if we want to match Chelsea’s history, there will be a lot of work to do. We will see if we have time to build in this way.”

Fans were quick to notice Pochettino and his lack of confidence in his job, with one responding on social media: “Pochettino is actually gone, why do I feel sad for him? “

This fan posted: “Pochettino is gone for sure, this post-match interview is horrible.”

While a third said: “Pochettino doesn’t seem very confident about his presence next season in this interview…”

Another wrote: “This Pochettino interview is CRAZY! This is a man resigned to being sacked.”

Chelsea have had a difficult season and have been working hard in mid-table throughout the campaign.

However, victory against Tottenham moves them up to eighth – and they are three points behind sixth-placed Manchester United, with Europe in their sights.

The Blues have lost just once in their last 11 Premier League matches – a 5-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in April.

Nonetheless, Pochettino has come under immense pressure amid speculation that the club is looking for replacements.

Shock reports from Italy have linked former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, who is currently a free agent after being sacked from Spurs last season, with the role.

Other candidates linked include Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting’s Ruben Amorim.

Chelsea have been hit by injuries this season and had 14 players missing against Tottenham on Thursday night.

They have four Premier League matches remaining against West Ham, Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, with the London derby against the Hammers particularly crucial in their bid for European football.
