Even though this seems like a somewhat low-key release, there has been a lot of anticipation for Banishers: The Ghosts of New Eden in some circles in recent months, and it’s finally ready to release this Tuesday, February 13th!

If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a story-driven Action-RPG created by the studio behind Life is strange And Just (DON’T NOD), and follows the story of two spirit hunters who attempt to “dispel a malicious curse through powerful rituals.”

The first reviews for the game went live today, so here’s what the reviewers are saying so far:

“Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is the kind of game we don’t get very often; the kind that does a lot with very little, but in a way that perfectly suits my tastes as someone who loves video games as an art of storytelling. form.”

“Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden sees developer DON’T NOD reach a new peak of development, as it combines an excellent narrative with engaging and enjoyable gameplay. Low enemy variety and technical flaws keep it from reaching true greatness, but its excellent story – the side quests focused on the other side make for some dreary fights that are worth fighting.”

Polygon (“Recommended”)

“Even though the combat isn’t spectacular and the graphics are mediocre, everything else makes this a very special game. With superb writing, excellent performances, clever core mechanics, and thoughtful, engaging stories, Banners is the best Don’t Nod game to date.”

“Don’t Nod’s new third-person action-adventure RPG is filled with whimsical ghost hunts, tied together in an irony-free story about the power of love. Despite some repetition and busywork, it’s is a great time.”

IGN (7/10)

“Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden’s memorable story and inspired investigations help it get through even the toughest times.”

“Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a love story about loss and sacrifice, propelling its choice-driven narrative amid mediocre combat.”

“Some captivating ghost stories warrant gathering around the campfire in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, but an open world full of routine skirmishes and mindless repetition might just scare you again. As the game’s most Throughout Dontnod to date, Banishers emphasizes the value of a tighter focus.”

“Banishers is a game I’ll be thinking about for a long time, for better or worse. You probably won’t find a better story anytime soon, but there are plenty of other better ways to spend your time.”

As you can see, there is definitely a positive feeling about Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden for the most part, although some of the 6/10 and 7/10 reviews bring down its average rating a bit. It’s still early in terms of Metacritic and OpenCritic scores, but we expect them to be somewhere between 75 and 80.
