Here’s the ‘ultimate wow factor’ behind the ‘Home Alone’ house for sale in Winnetka – NBC Chicago

One of the Chicago area’s most iconic movie theaters went on the market Friday, which could make your home a popular Christmas attraction for a hefty sum.

Made famous for its appearance in the 1990 Christmas cult classic “Home Alone,” the red brick Georgian home located at 671 North Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka is now officially for sale at $5,250,000.

Those interested in owning the McAlister family residence may notice when viewing the home listing that much of the 9,000-plus square foot home bears little resemblance to the house in the movie, which may be attributed to interior scenes shot with shutters closed. New cantonal high school in Trier and recent renovation.

While key spaces such as the entry foyer and instantly recognizable entry staircase have remained largely unchanged, the home is now also outfitted with luxurious amenities, including a feature that the home’s Zillow listing considered “the ultimate wow factor”.

Comprised of five bedrooms and six bathrooms, the residence has a number of notable features, such as a luxurious master suite with a gas fireplace, two laundry rooms, and a converted junior attic suite that offers “a magnificent escape at the top of the trees”.

There is also a recent addition featuring a sun-filled family room with expansive 10-foot, 4-inch-high coffered ceilings and walls of French doors that open to the inviting courtyard.

If you’re already impressed, wait until the basement.

The lower level includes a fully equipped gym, recreation area, full bathroom, wet bar and state-of-the-art theater room, according to the listing.

If you didn’t think that was enough to experience a piece of local cinematic history, there’s also a state-of-the-art indoor basketball court with a realistic three-point line.

If you’re wondering, the current owners purchased the residence for $1,585,000 in March 2012. Although the house is not open to the public, some lucky people have had the chance to stay there in recent years.

Bookings for an overnight stay were available through Airbnb just before Christmas 2021 and, unsurprisingly, they sold out quickly.

Tenants were able to enjoy the family home as they knew it: filled with Christmas decorations, traps, a candlelit dinner of highly nutritious microwaveable macaroni and cheese, aftershave from Kevin’s dad, ’90s junk food, the “best pizza in Chicago” and much more.
