Here’s the Pixel 9 series device you’re most interested in

With Google hosting a launch event for a number of upcoming smartphones, we wanted to know which Pixel 9 series device you’re most excited about. Here’s what you had to say.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, Made by Google’s early launch event means you’ll get to see four new Pixel phones on August 13th. That’s not even to mention two Pixel Watch 3 wearables and potentially other surprises that Google no doubt has in store for us. If you’re interested in the Pixel 9 launch event in any way, we’ll have plenty to talk about in the coming weeks.

Initially, I thought people would be most interested in the Pixel 9 Pro XL or whatever it ends up being called. It turns out that’s the Pixel 9 unit you’re most interested in. Nearly 40% of the 13,000 people who responded to our initial survey said that’s the one they wanted to know more about. The leaked dimensions suggest it’ll be a 6.34-inch device, but it’ll feature all the high-end specs. Google is going for a bit of the iPhone Pro plus Pro Max configuration with the Pixel 9 Pro this year.

Reader Paul said the Pixel 9 Pro was their biggest draw, as it would “finally” deliver a “usable-sized Pro phone” that also includes the optical zoom we’ve been wanting on the regular Pixel for a while. In that sense, this smaller Pro model makes perfect sense for people who want all the features without compromising on form factor. I can see why people like the idea of a smaller but equally powerful phone. Reader vonDubenshire even went so far as to say that it’s the phone they’ve “wanted for 3 years.”

Nearly 28% of you said the Pixel 9 Pro “XL” was your biggest draw. This larger phone will have a 6.7-inch display and a similar footprint to the Pixel 8 Pro. At least in theory, bigger should mean better, but there’s no indication that the larger model will get any additional hardware this time around that won’t be present on the regular Pro.

Another surprising number is the 15.4% of you who said you have your heart set on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which is more than the 14.7% of you who are interested in the smaller – and likely cheaper – Pixel 9. Reader Vito echoed some of the other comments we’ve seen in saying that normally they’d be interested in the Pixel 9 Pro XL, but this year they’re excited about the potential “high-end specs” the Pixel 9 Pro Fold could bring. I barely found a single person mentioning the smaller phone of the bunch.

That leaves just 2.9% of you who said you have no interest in the Pixel 9 at all. Most cited the Pixel 10 as the reason you have no interest in what’s being unveiled at Made by Google. Godwin said they’re “getting the Pixel 8a” and using it until “the Pixel 10 comes along” because of the high hopes for the Tensor G5. I think we do too, Godwin, but we’ll see what the Pixel 9 brings to the table first…
