We know that Doge Bender of Elon Musk has seriously harmed Tesla car sales. But what about Cybertruck specifically?
Tesla does not burst the quarterly delivery numbers for this division vehicle. But once a quarter, Cox Automotive estimates sales of electric vehicles and includes a number for cybertrucks.
This is one of the only sources where you can see how Cybertruck worked in any period. The angular and futuristic beast is loved or despised. While Musk waded more deeply in Doge, this vehicle has become even more polarizing, if possible. (I even stopped mentioning that I had once a reservation to buy a cybertruck. Please don’t tell anyone.)
About a month ago, I was walking with a friend in my hometown and there was a cybertruck parked near the sidewalk. He had a deep Burgundy envelope and I noticed on this subject. My boyfriend began to swear and shout about Elon and how contemptible the vehicle was. I had never seen it so angry (except when the Eagles lose).
With reactions like this, I was wondering if someone would buy a cybertruck this year. And yet, I see them in Silicon Valley relatively often. So how did it do the Q1?
Cox estimates that Tesla sold 6,406 cybertrucks in the first three months of 2025.
This is compared to 12,991 units in the fourth quarter of 2024 before Elon went to Doge. (This drop occurred even though Tesla has dropped prices.)
A year ago, in the first quarter of 2024, Tesla delivered 2,803 cybertrucks, according to Cox.
The Cybertruck had exceeded other models of EV trucks. But this time, in the first quarter, Ford sold more than F-150 Lightnning Curucks, according to Cox estimates.
At one point, in the third quarter of 2024, the cybertruck was the EV third more popular In the United States, existing all other non-Tesla electric vehicles, according to Cox.
Q3 seems so long ago now.
