If you’re reading this, it’s safe to say you’re in the same boat as me right now. Gone are the days when I was a twenty-something straight out of college, because now that I’m much closer to 30 than 20, I want to change my ways to dress myself. Granted, I really don’t believe that fashion or trends have an age limit, but personally, I’m tired of wearing crop tops. And given society’s obsession with youth, the desire to dress in a more mature manner is not often seen (or at least talked about). So I’m here for girls like me who are in that awkward in-between stage where they decide to stop dressing like a college sorority and are looking to dress in a more sophisticated but still very sexy way.

The reality of entering the corporate world as a full-fledged adult is that sometimes appearing “too young” can be seen as much of a problem as appearing “too mature” due to unspoken biases on age. You want to be taken seriously, especially when you’re developing your career. And while it’s obviously wrong to judge a person’s experience based on what they wear, it unfortunately still happens all the time.

So what are we going to do? Well, we’re going to use fashion to manipulate perception. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to dress more meaningfully to make it seem like you’re “in control.” And yes, it is possible to do it in a way that doesn’t make you look like a disreputable adult. It’s all in the details, like keeping your button-down shirts wrinkle-free and incorporating more tailored pieces into your wardrobe. Or, ditch your sneakers/Converse and opt for chic heeled boots or trendy loafers. But if you need a little extra help, keep scrolling for the best fashion picks that helped me adapt to my new adult style.
