Henry Ruggs, former Las Vegas Raider, working at the Nevada Governor’s Mansion while serving prison time

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III is working at the Nevada Governor’s Mansion in Carson City while serving his 3- to 10-year prison sentence, 8 News Now investigators have learned.

Ruggs, 25, was sentenced Aug. 9, 2023, after pleading guilty to driving drunk at 150 mph and crashing into a car, killing Tina Tintor, 23, and her dog. The crash occurred in November 2021. Prosecutors had said Ruggs’ blood alcohol level was 0.16, twice the legal limit.

Ruggs is serving his sentence at Stewart Conservation Camp in northern Nevada, a facility that houses minimum custody and community trust inmates. Ruggs is classified as “community loyal,” according to the Nevada Department of Corrections. In this job, community administrators work for government offices and earn $2.50 per hour.

Community trust inmates “represent limited potential for misconduct and low risk of escape when assigned to employment in the community,” according to the department. They are assigned to jobs in buildings and exterior work, parks and recreation, and at the Governor’s House, which includes cleaning, yard work and event assistance.

About four inmates are assigned to the governor’s mansion, according to the department.

“The Nevada Department of Corrections independently assigns lawful status to offenders because they are legally eligible. The Governor’s Office and Governor’s House are not involved in reliable work assignments,” said Elizabeth Ray, a spokeswoman for Lombardo.

Ruggs began serving his sentence at High Desert State Prison, northwest of Las Vegas, records show. The prison, the department’s largest, is a 45-minute drive northwest of Las Vegas. He was then transferred to Stewart Conservation Camp last September.

Ruggs, who was initially charged with driving while intoxicated causing death, driving while intoxicated causing bodily harm, two counts of reckless driving causing death or great bodily harm and possession of a firearm while under the influence, accepted a plea deal last May.

Ruggs is up for parole in August 2026. He is eligible for credit for time served under his work program, the spokesperson said.
