Helldivers 2 is still being pulled from sale on Steam in more countries, even after publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) dropped its hugely controversial PSN mandate.
SIE previously attempted to force PC players of Helldivers 2 into signing into an active PlayStation Network account months after launch, leading to a massive review campaign and delisting from Steam in over 170 countries without coverage PSN. Sony eventually dropped the mandate, keeping account linking as a simple option, but the biggest shooter of the year is still restricted in more countries.
Helldivers 2 has now been removed from Steam in three other countries without PSN coverage – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – according to Steam Database listings. It’s unclear if existing Helldivers 2 owners in these countries can still play the game.
The news appears to have come as a surprise even to the game’s own developers at Arrowhead Studios. “We have no idea what’s going on,” CEO Johan Pilestedt said in response to a player on the game’s Discord channel. “Most of the developers are on holidays and we just found out thanks to the community. We want the game to be available worldwide.
Helldivers 2 also failed to return to the roughly 170 territories that were barred from purchasing the game, which was one of the main reasons players banded together to negatively review the game in first place. But Pilestedt assured players that he was working with PlayStation and Valve to get Helldivers 2 back on store shelves “everywhere.”
