Heartbreaking footage shows dying Atlanta man, 24, marrying fiancée after being given weeks to live

A cancer patient from Atlanta, Georgia, got his dying wish to marry his fiancée after doctors told him he had just weeks to live.

Jordan Barrett, 24, was diagnosed with stomach cancer last year. In an attempt to eradicate the cancer, his entire stomach was removed.

While he initially thought he was in remission despite his scans coming back clean, the cancer returned more aggressive than before. As a result, his doctors told him he didn’t have much time left.

By chance, he renewed a friendship with his childhood friend Mikayla Thomas in March – and the pair fell madly in love. With Jordan’s tragic and terminal diagnosis, they decided to get married as soon as possible.

On Saturday, the beloved couple tied the knot in front of their tearful friends and family.

“To his family, I thank them for supporting me and making every decision I made. I love this man more than life itself and I will live forever in his name,” Mikayla Thomas told DailyMail.com.

In an interview with DailyMail.com, Mikayla expressed her undying love and gratitude for her new husband Barrett.

“I still haven’t found words to express my feelings or my words towards Jordan,” she said. “I especially appreciate his mother, she shares her little boy with me every day during this time and I couldn’t respect or thank her more.

Thomas said she and Barrett had known each other since childhood, but reconnected in March and fell in love.

“We’ve known each other since we were babies, but life brought us together in March,” she said.

“After he found out about the cancer, he wasted no time wanting me to be his forever.”

While he initially thought he was in remission thanks to his tests, the cancer reappeared months later, more aggressive than before.

The newlyweds are still planning their honeymoon and haven’t yet decided where they want to venture.

At first, Barrett wanted to hide the tragic news of her cancer diagnosis from others to avoid facing the reality of the situation.

“(The cancer) has now spread to multiple places and we don’t have the same treatment options,” Barret said in a GoFundMe description.

“Doctors confirmed last week that we would move to palliative care within a planned time frame of 6 weeks until progression had a significant effect on me on a daily basis, and 4 months until the cancer took over. “

“This is a devastating thing for me and my family to deal with. Initially, I asked my family not to share, hoping to hide from this reality.

“But as I processed this news last week, I realized that I needed the most comprehensive support system possible for myself, as well as my immediate family and friends. “

He said he has since accepted his fate and wants to make the most of the time he has left.

“I know where I’m going once this time is over and I’ve accepted it. I just want to spend the time I have left celebrating and being with the ones I love,” he said.

The newly married patient says he wants to cross other things off his list before he passes, like going on a honeymoon with Mikayla and one last family trip.

“I have also been thinking about how to best use the time I have left and the many things I want to experience before this illness impacts my everyday life.”
