‘Head turned’ – Mohamed Salah backed Liverpool’s move to Saudi Arabia in summer transfer by club legend Graeme Souness

Mohamed Salah looks destined to end his seven-year stay at Liverpool and move to Saudi Arabia this summer.

That’s the view of Reds legend Graeme Souness, who believes the 31-year-old has had his “head turned” by transfer interest.

talkSPORT understands Liverpool are preparing to receive a fresh approach from a Saudi side after Al Ittihad’s £150m bid fell through last year.

Despite struggling to get fit of late, the Egyptian has still managed to contribute with 24 goals and 13 assists in 41 games in all competitions this season.

However, with a year left on his contract at Anfield, Liverpool know they may have to reluctantly cash in on him to avoid losing the player on a free transfer.

Salah only added to the uncertainty surrounding his Merseyside future at West Ham on Saturday following his touchline row with Jurgen Klopp.

All signs point to an exit on the books for Souness, who discussed the ex-Chelsea man with talkSPORT host Simon Jordan.

Speaking before the incident at the London Stadium on the latest episode of Simon & Souness, the ex-Liverpool star was asked if he thought Salah would leave this summer.

To which he replied: “I think there’s a real chance.

“There is every chance he would have agreed a deal with Liverpool at the end of last season, last summer.

“’Oh, there’s interest from Saudi Arabia’ – but he gave them an extra year.

“It’s like (Cristiano) Ronaldo at Manchester United, he gave them an extra year and then left for Real Madrid (in 2009). I think there’s every chance that’s the case.

Mo Salah says ‘there will be fire’ if he speaks during his sideline clash with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

“Given Salah is (almost) 32 now, I think he’s been wonderful for Liverpool, but I think he’s had his head turned.

“He’s going back to a Muslim country, his native language, so at his age and everything else, I think there’s every chance of that happening.”

The topic of Salah’s future will likely continue to be a hot topic until the end of the season, particularly following his comments about his row with Klopp.

While the German said the issue was “resolved” after discussing it in the dressing room, Salah hinted the issue was not resolved.

When asked to speak about the incident following the 2-2 draw, he simply said: “If I speak today there will be fire.”
