‘He won’t have the big Tyson Fury’ – Lennox Lewis warns Oleksandr Usyk he will face Gypsy King in top form after a ‘wake-up call’

Lennox Lewis has told talkSPORT that Tyson Fury will be at his best against Oleksandr Usyk next week.

The Gyspy King has been questioned by many fans and pundits, including Lewis, after his last lackluster performance against Francis Ngannou in October.

However, boxing’s latest undisputed world heavyweight champion believes Fury will become the next undisputed king on May 18.

“Tyson Fury is not an easy fight for anyone,” Lewis told talkSPORT.

“He’s elusive, he moves well, he boxes both ways. For any boxer, that’s going to take a while to figure out.

“Also the height difference is an issue, 6ft 9in is not an easy fight for anyone.

“And he (Usyk) won’t have the big Tyson Fury, he’ll have the focused guy.

“The guy who doesn’t have a belly, who doesn’t have love handles, is ready, focused and willing.”

After Lewis gave this interview to talkSPORT, Fury proved him right not even 24 hours later, posting a shirtless photo that showed off his impressive physique with just over a week to go before the fight.

Reflecting on the Ngannou fight, Lewis insisted: “I think it was a bad day at the office. He didn’t take the fight as seriously as he should have.

“It was just a wake-up call for him.

“A wake-up call to say, ‘Hey, get in shape, this guy didn’t get into any fights and you let him really close to you.’

“So I think mentally it bothered him a little bit, because if you look at him now, he’s in great shape.

“A few weeks before the fight, he is in great shape.

“That tells me he’s taking the fight seriously and we’re going to have a great fight…

“It was a wake-up call for him that he wasn’t as serious as he should have been for this fight.

“Actually, he needed that to wake up.

“I hurt him, a lot of people hurt him, and now he’s focused.”
