Andrew Flintoff’s wife revealed how she tried to comfort her husband after her almost fatal Top Gear car accident in December 2022.
Flintoff, 47, had to be transported by plane to the hospital after the three -wheeled Morgan Super 3 sports car which he was driving and crashed from the Dunsfold aerodrome test track in Surrey during the shooting.
Rachael Wools, 43, shares four children with Flintoff and has been married to the former cricket star in England since March 2005. She visited him in the hospital in the aftermath of her accident and has now opened up in the new Disney + documentary of Flintoff on the way she reacted to seeing him for the first time with her horrible injuries.
Flintoff suffered serious face injuries and several broken ribs, and Rachael explained how she knew she had to reassure her husband after he realized how shaken by the test.
“I have never seen someone so frightened in the eyes,” recalls Rachael while wiping tears. “He just looked at me. And I think he was just looking at me to find out how bad it was.
“To be fair, I got completely gathered and I didn’t cry. I just said: “It’s okay, it’s going to go. I can’t believe how incredible you look.

Rachael managed to stay strong when Flintoff was the most vulnerable, although originally knowing how serious the accident was.
She admitted to the documentary that she had initially given few details on the accident, but it quickly became clear when she arrived at the hospital that Flintoff was seriously injured.
“I received a phone call, Andrew participated in an accident at Top Gear, but we don’t have much information,” said Rachael.
“I think they could take him to the nearest hospital, it seems that it is only his teeth but we think he will be fine. I put the phone and I didn’t think about it much to start, it intensified a little very quickly.
“I did not receive any information, I did not know how he had been injured and I just started to grasp all my things and I thought I will go to London and I hope someone will tell me where he is.
“When I saw him, I entered the room, he was in bed and he was bandaged.
The former model and entrepreneur turned his attention to his children before Flintoff returned from the hospital, revealing that she had asked them not to react when they saw him when he started his long way to recovery.
“Before going home, I called the children,” she added.
“You just have to be as strong as you have ever been, your father looks different at the moment. It will improve but I don’t want you to look shocked and horrified because it will hit him.

Rachael admitted that Flintoff “ zoné ” in the months following his accident, but he has now returned to public projectors
“It was difficult, and Andrew does not know that I did it and I am so grateful to all these people.
“I always have a husband, children always had their father and I am very aware that there are other people who go through similar or very worse things without the help we had.
“I think you haven’t seen any Fred at all, he just zoned did not want to talk to everyone. He just didn’t want to do anything. It was like the lowest I have ever seen.
More than two years after his accident that changes his life, Flintoff made a remarkable recovery after his return to public spotlights.
He refused to get out of his house in the months following the accident, but returned to cricket as a coach with the England team in September 2023.
Flintoff then received his first role as head coach last summer when he directed northern super-chargers in the hundred, and he was placed in charge of the Lions of England during the winter, while he was trying to develop the next generation of stars for the national side.
He also made a recent appearance in the Jonathan Ross show and has now promoted his eye -revealing documentary that was broadcast in full on Disney + Friday.
