Frenkie de Jong spoke of Lamine Yamal after the teenage stellar season for Barcelona and Spain.
Yamal has won three trophies with Barcelona and is now Target the glory of the League of Nations with Spain.
De Jong says Yamal does not seem to be affected by his success So far and definitely keeps her feet on the ground.
“So far, definitively. He continues to work, is cheerful and does not act different from what he has done at the start of the season. So far, it is good,” he told De Telegraaf.
“In addition, I hope he will continue to develop as he did in the past and a half year and continues to play so carefree. It is as well for me as a player colleague.”
Perhaps inevitably, De Jong was also asked about comparisons between Lionel Messi and Yamal and offered the following answer.
“Two big players, both really great. And Lamine is still so young. When I was seventeen, I was in Jong Willem II and I was allowed to play for the first team from time to time,” he said.
“For me, Messi is better now, but because Lamine is always so super young, you don’t know how he will develop in the years to come. He has a lot of talent.”
Yamal and Spain will face Portugal later at the end of the final of the League of Nations.
