Haryana Assembly Elections 2024 | Congress releases first list of candidates, introduces Julana’s Vinesh Phogat
The Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) on Friday (September 6) released its first list of 31 candidates for the upcoming Haryana assembly elections. Among the notable names is wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who joined the party earlier in the day and will contest from Julana constituency.
Vinesh Phogat and fellow wrestler Bajrang Punia were inducted into the Congress party at its New Delhi headquarters, ahead of elections scheduled for October 5. The announcement was made in the presence of senior leaders including Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, Haryana party president Udai Bhan and party spokesperson Pawan Khera.
Other prominent candidates on the list include former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who will contest from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi, Bharat Bhushan Batra from Rohak and Shakuntla Khatak from Kalanaur (SC). The party is aiming to win back the state in the 90-member assembly.
