But Internet users had even stronger reactions.

“The only goal of these pro-Hamas protesters is to eradicate all Western values and basic human rights while establishing an Islamic Sharia regime,” X user Mor Hogeg posted on Sunday.

“They begin with the Jews of Israel as their primary objective and will continue with the entire West,” he wrote. “This is not a fight between Israel and Hamas – the fight is between a culture of life and a culture of death. WAKE UP!”

Another user called for armed intervention.

“This is where the National Guard needs to be called in,” Mark Isaacson wrote. “On the other hand, with our representatives in Congress waving Ukrainian flags, it’s not like these young people have great role models.”

The Crimson said the Harvard statue’s flagpole usually flies the American flag, but the flags of visiting foreign dignitaries are also displayed when they visit campus.

The outlet said no American flags were flying at the time of Saturday’s incident and that the Stars and Stripes are typically raised at 7 a.m. Monday through Friday and lowered at 4 p.m. “for proper storage.”

The installation of the Palestinian flag took place as anti-Israeli students camped on the school grounds chanted and cheered “Free, free Palestine” and “We flay for Palestine.”

Similar scenes played out on college campuses across the United States, including at Columbia University in the Big Apple and other Ivy League universities.

The protests were sparked by the Israeli counter-offensive in response to a sneak attack on the Jewish state by Hamas terrorists on October 7, which left more than 1,000 Israelis dead.

According to the Harvard Crimson, university staff removed the Palestinian flag shortly after it was raised on the flagpole on Saturday, as students jeered at them.
