Harry Redknapp thinks that writing was on the wall for Ange Postcoglou in Tottenham as soon as Daniel Levy refused to support him publicly after the Europa League final last month. Friday, Spurs confirmed that the Australian had been dismissed.
Despite the victory of the first club trophy in 17 years, Postcoglou was rejected after a 17th place in the Premier League. In a statement, Tottenham explained that “the board of directors unanimously concluded that it was in the best interest of the club for a change.”
Tottenham added: “After a positive start in the 2023/24 Premier League (PL) season, we recorded 78 points compared to the last 66 PL games. This led to our worst PL finish last season.
“Sometimes there were attenuating circumstances – injuries, then a decision to prioritize our European campaign. While winning the Europa League this season is among the biggest moments in the club, We cannot base our decision on emotions aligned with this triumph.
“It is crucial that we can compete on several fronts and believe that a change of approach will give us the highest chances of the coming season and beyond. This has been one of the most difficult decisions we had to make and is not a decision that we made lightly, nor a success decision, not the easy decision.”
They are now looking for another new head coach after having appointed Postcoglou during a roller coaster in 2023 when Arne Slot was initially targeted. For Redknapp, there was only one decision to come.
“I thought it was a certainty,” he told Talksport. “(That) don’t shock me All because Daniel has had two weeks since the Cup final to be released and say: “Look, it’s our manager. Why all these speculations? He’s here for next season. From the first day, after this cup, he never got out, Daniel, and said a word, Daniel Levy. I knew then, for sure, he had finished. It was a certainty. It is not a shock in any form or shape for me. “”
The reaction to the dismissal was divided. On the one hand, Postcoglou has ended Tottenham’s expectation for major silverware and has delivered a night of immense joy which cannot be competed lately.
He had become an unpopular figure throughout the season, however, with more and more abject interior performances culminating in 22 defeats of 38 championship games. It was Levy who felt the weight of supporters’ demonstrations because of his club race.
For Redknapp, the Europa League was not sufficient. “It’s hard,” he started, before adding, “well, it’s difficult. They were atrocious this year, Tottenham, let’s be honest. The shape of the league, fourth from below, they had a shock. And great, they won the cup, you can win a cup.
“I read the article by Graeme Souness the other day, I won a cut. Sometimes you have the chance of the draw and you can do or do it. They beat Man United. It could have been in both directions in the final. But great, they won the cup.

What is Redknapp thinking that Levy is afterwards, finally? “He will want to be up there in this top four, difficult.” For many, Tottenham may well be back at square one.
