Harry Kane has nightmare outing on landmark appearance as another trophyless season edges closer

Harry Kane was guilty of a rare disaster as Bayern Munich lost 2-0 at home to Borussia Dortmund..

The result means Bayer Leverkusen now only need nine points from their last seven matches to clinch their first Bundesliga title.

After seeing Leverkusen win again with another late game against Hoffenheim, the wind clearly took the wind out of the record champions’ hands against Dortmund.

BVB took the lead within ten minutes through Karim Adeyemi at the Allianz Arena, then failed to threaten for the next 70 minutes.

During that period, Bayern’s record scorer Kane had a number of chances to equalize, but failed to put any of his four shots on target, with two of them being particularly guilt-inducing.

This means the England captain’s 400th club appearance was extremely disappointing.

With Leverkusen now in ‘one finger on the trophy’ territory, Kane and Bayern’s only remaining route to silverware appears to be the Champions League.

However, their quarter-final opponents Arsenal will have no fear after another below-par performance from Bayern.

Leverkusen looked set to lose for the first time this season from the start and found themselves trailing 1-0 at home to Hoffenheim with two minutes of normal time remaining.

However, Robert Andrich suddenly equalized and then Patrik Schick won the match in stoppage time to remain 39 games unbeaten.

The most surprising thing is that Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel admitted before the match that he had followed Leverkusen’s victory and filed a complaint.

“We had a bit of a damper in our mood with the result in Leverkusen,” he said. “We had just come on and then the goals came.
