Harris’ team topped $360 million in August fundraising, more than double Trump’s haul

Vice President Kamala Harris’ political team has once again topped $300 million in fundraising, doubling former President Donald Trump’s haul for the month of August.

Last month, Harris’ team raised $361 million and ended August with $404 million in cash on hand from her campaign, joint committees and the Democratic National Committee, her team disclosed.

By comparison, Trump’s campaign and its allied committees reported raising $130 million for August, down from the $138.7 million it raised in July. His team ended the month with $295 million in cash.

“In a short time, Vice President Harris’ candidacy has galvanized a historic, broad and diverse coalition – with the kind of enthusiasm, energy and courage that wins close elections,” campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement.

“We are committed to doing everything we can to mobilize our coalition to defeat Donald Trump once and for all.”

Since Harris’ sudden rise to the top of the ticket, her team has raked in a colossal $615 million in fundraising, according to her campaign, which called August “the biggest haul of the 2024 cycle.”

That’s up from last week, when his campaign confirmed it had raised $540 million in just over a month since President Biden dropped out of the race.

Harris’s campaign has called August “the best month of grassroots fundraising in presidential history.” And that comes on the heels of the astronomical $310 million haul the vice president’s campaign and associated committees raised in July.

In July, the Harris-Walz campaign and its affiliated committees crossed the billion-dollar threshold at a historically rapid pace.

“Since Vice President Harris announced her candidacy in July, one thing has been clear: voters are excited and motivated to send her to the Oval Office,” DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison said in a statement.

Harris received several key boosts in August, including the announcement of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) as her vice presidential pick — the third-best campaign date to date — and the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

His campaign claims that “five of the 10 most significant days of the campaign took place in August.”

The donations came from nearly three million donors, including “1.3 million donors making their first donation this cycle,” according to his team.

It’s worth noting that nearly 60% of August donors were women and about a fifth were Republicans or independents.

About 95% of donations made during the month were less than $200, compared to 98% of donations to Trump’s team, which were less than $200.

Trump’s top pollster had predicted that Harris would enjoy something of a honeymoon in the polls after replacing Biden at the top of the ticket, but the former president’s team has tried to argue that that momentum is fading. Harris’ allies point to the colossal showing as evidence that her momentum has not waned.

In a show of fiscal confidence, the Harris-Walz campaign and the DNC this week announced plans to spend $25 million on local elections, seeking to bolster Democrats.

Previously, the Trump campaign and allied groups outspent Harris’ team in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona and North Carolina between July 22 and Aug. 25, according to ad tracking firm Ad Impact and NPR.

However, the Harris-Walz campaign appears ready to pour its mountain of cash into key states, while the former president’s team appears to be focused on Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Harris’ team plans to spend $370 million to blanket both digital and television with ads from Labor Day through Election Night.

Meanwhile, Trump’s team is looking to show that it is adequately prepared for the final stretch of the election.

“With Republicans united and a growing number of independents and disaffected Democrats crossing party lines, the Trump-Vance campaign has momentum heading into the final stretch of the race,” Brian Hughes, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, said in a statement.

“These August fundraising numbers reflect that movement and will propel President Trump’s America First movement to the White House so we can fix the terrible failures of Harris and Biden.”

So far, Trump has lagged behind Biden and Hillary Clinton in fundraising. But Harris has consistently maintained she is the underdog in this race.

Harris and Trump are scheduled to face off in Philadelphia for a debate on September 10 hosted by ABC News.

Before this verbal confrontation, Harris should prepare himself.
