WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris raised well over double what former President Donald Trump did from donors in August, her campaign said Friday, saying she raised $361 million from nearly 3 million donors in her first full month as candidate.
Trump’s campaign announced Wednesday that it had raised $130 million over the same period. Harris’s campaign said it ended the month with $404 million in its pocket for the final sprint to Election Day, $109 million more than Trump’s campaign said it had at the end of August.
Harris’s massive war chest is being used to fund a $370 million paid media effort for the final two months of the campaign, and to pay her more than 2,000 field staffers in more than 310 offices in key states.
Harris’ fundraising builds on the $310 million she raised in July, the vast majority of which came after she took over as campaign chair for President Joe Biden after he stepped down that month. The ticket swap helped the Democratic Party reverse the fundraising advantage Trump had developed in the preceding months, when voter doubts about Biden’s fitness for another term dampened donor — and voter — enthusiasm.
“In a short time, Vice President Harris’ candidacy has galvanized a historic, broad and diverse coalition with the kind of enthusiasm, energy and courage that wins close elections,” Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Harris’ campaign manager, said in a statement. “As we enter the final stretch of this election, we are ensuring that every hard-earned dollar goes to the voters who will decide this election.”
The figures released by the two campaigns do not include the full disclosures from the Federal Election Commission, which will be released later this month. The totals for both campaigns include fundraising by their respective national parties and associated committees.
