Opponents of President Trump are planning demonstrations on Saturday in the 50 states to oppose the president’s attacks and burns against federal health care programs and government employees, a message that says calls to a politically diverse set of Americans.
Mass action, “Hands Off!” Was organized by indivisible, Moveon and several other groups which led demonstrations concerning the rights to abortion, armed violence and racial justice during the first Trump administration. But the organizers said they were now working with 150 local, state and national partners to highlight a new Message: President Trump threatens health care, social security and education, makes life more difficult for the American American, while enjoying his richest friends.
“We have to bring new people, and this is where Trump’s policies are so substantial,” said Britt Jacovich, spokesperson for Moveon.
Trump’s long -standing opponents re -examine the enormous protest movements that have defined his first pass in office. The demonstrations struck new generations of activists and helped the Democrats to take over the Chamber in 2018, but they did not protected Roe v. Wade or forced Congress to adopt legislation on police reform. And at the end, Trump roared in November and won the elections.
“The demonstrations have been effective in the short term, but in the longer term, unless there is a kind of politically resounding defeat, movements like that of Trump are able to reconstruct themselves and, in this case, to win,” said Erica Chenoweth, a political scientist who studies social movements and non -violent resistance.
The demonstrations on Saturday will surely include signs and discourse on reproductive rights, trans and racial justice. In other respects, events may have little resemblance to the mass demonstrations of Mr. Trump’s first mandate, in particular women’s march on Washington, which has set the tone to resistance. The day after its inauguration, more than half a million Hatreaux demonstrators went down to the national capital To watch Madonna play and celebrities pronounce linked speeches and millions of others paraded in the cities of the country.
