Hamas has confirmed that his military leader, Mohammed Deif, had been killed.
The Israeli army said it had killed Deif in July of last year, but Hamas had not confirmed this so far.
Israel says that DEIF was one of the figures responsible for the planning of October 7 attacks in southern Israel, in which 1,200 people were killed and 251 hostages took hostages.
DEIF was largely considered to be the second head of Hamas in Gaza, behind Yahya Sinwar, the group leader on the territory, who was also killed by Israeli forces last year.
Judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) last year issued an arrest warrant against DeifAlongside the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the former Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant.
DEIF was known for helping to design the construction of tunnels that allowed Hamas fighters to enter Israel from Gaza. It was also credited with the design of the signature weapon of Hamas, the Qassam rocket.
In its statement Thursday, Hamas also announced the death of deputy military commander Marwan Issa.
The United States announced the death of Issa in March of last year.
Issa was the deputy commander of the Hamas military wing and was considered one of Israel’s most sought after. The European Union, which placed the head of Hamas on its terrorist black list, linked it directly to the attack on October 7.
The last war was launched when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023.
The 15 -month military offensive in Israel killed more than 47,460 Palestinians in the territory, according to the Ministry of Health managed by Gaza.
A ceasefire between Hamas and Israel entered into force on January 19.
In total, 15 Israeli hostages have since been released.
Until now, 400 Palestinian prisoners – ranging from those who are serving long sorrows for bombing and other attacks to teenagers detained without indictment – have been released.
