Hakeem Jeffries says he has ‘no idea’ what Kevin McCarthy is talking about

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Sunday that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told him there was “nothing in the bill for Democrats.”
But Jeffries denied making such comments to his GOP colleague.
“I have no idea what [McCarthy is] of which I am speaking in particular, because I have not been able to read the legislative texts as such. Everything we’ve reached is a tentative agreement,” Jeffries said during an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
Jeffries said he last spoke to McCarthy on Saturday afternoon. White House and GOP negotiators announced the deal Saturday night.
“What I have always said, however, in private and in public, is that the extreme negotiating stance of MAGA Republicans and the extreme bill they passed on April 26, the Default on America Act , contained nothing consistent with Democratic or American values. “, added Jeffries.
The compromise reached last night “will not be a final deal,” Jeffries said, until Congress is able to consider the legislation, which is expected to be released Sunday afternoon.
McCarthy’s team later said McCarthy didn’t mean he heard this directly from Jeffries, but from other Democrats.
