For nine months, Instagram supporters of Hailey Okula watched her balance the requirements of her work with the happiness of preparing for her and her husband’s first child. Now, this same community is gathering to support her husband and their newborn son in the aftermath of her death.
Hailey Okula, an emergency nurse known on Instagram under the name of a nurse Hailey, died of childbirth complications shortly after welcoming her son, Crew, according to an April 1 update shared by her husband, Matthew Okula.

In 2019, Hailey Okula founded RN New Grades to support the newly graduated nurses, providing information on work research and the launch in a nursing career. Her Instagram account of new graduates shared vulnerable content when she talked about her pregnancy career and the challenges that she and her husband were faced with infertility and IVF. She cultivated the Instagram community at more than 400,000 subscribers.
“Being able to say that we are pregnant is indescribable,” she wrote during a pregnancy announcement of September 2024. “From my infertility problems, to the infertility problems of my husband, to us must create a special probe because we both carry the same genetic disease, the lots of medicines and a lot of money, the trip was difficult, but it is worth it.”
In the post announcing his death, Matthew Okula thought about Hailey’s strength throughout their trip to parenting.
“Words cannot describe how much we wanted to be parents,” he wrote. After years of infertility difficulties and a long and difficult IVF process, we were delighted to expect the crew. Hailey faced each obstacle with so much courage and love – even if her body has crossed so much, she never hesitated. I will never forget the moment when I broke down, apologizing for the balance sheet that the process would reach it.
