WWE did a job hell in the weeks preceding this evening (Saturday May 10, 2025) Backlash Premium event Live to the Enterprise Center by St. Louis, Missouri, to build a match between Gunther, one of the most dominant champions that the company has ever seen, and Pat McAfee, a retired bettor who has become a colorful commentator.
It made no sense that it was a match to start, then they sold me on the promotions that led tonight. But could they deliver a decent match?
Well, maybe that’s what you expected. Gunther played with his food for a large part of the match, and McAfee did things like stumbling on the upper rope while trying to jump in the ring on it. Pat tried to go to Chop-For-Chop with the former heavyweight champion at some point and found himself flattened.
Michael Cole even shouted in Gunther from the comments office to simply pin him and finish at some point.
Cole became quite desperate at some point that he went up in the ring to try to help and found himself outside.
There have been a few attempts to ride McAfee, and a slight teasing, he could shock the world, but in the end he was locked up in a sleeper and could not resist him.
Gunther, at least, showed his respect for McAfee after the match, giving him an approval to have simolé as much as he is.
