Hamilton, who begins fifth in Barcelona, said that his goal was to “try to go to the podium. I have not been on a podium for a long time”.
His latest podium was in Las Vegas last November, when he was driving for Mercedes.
He referred to the former teammate George Russell taking the fourth on the grid in Spain last year.
“Abandonment to have the first. We saw the start that George obtained last year,” said Hamilton. “So, I’m going to do my best to try to get a good start. And after that, it’s just about managing the tires here, which is difficult.”
Piastri said he was wary of “the long term to shoot one, so I have to make sure that we are trying to take a good start”.
He added: “It will still be an interesting race and it is not as simple as taking the lead at first and navigating from there. It will be a challenge to manage the tires, drawing your stops correctly. There will be a lot.”
Verstappen said: “It’s time to shine in turn, yeah. Make three (cars) wide for the photos. Why not?
“My long term (in Friday-training) was not bad, but if you look at the difference today, it will be difficult to fight a very good fight. But that does not mean that we are not going to try.
“As Oscar said, it’s not all about the start and the tour.
