Chelsea fans are getting excited…you’re going to win the Champions League!
Okay, it might be a little premature to return the title to the Blues, but the stars align.
Graham Potter is now unbeaten in his first four Champions League matches with a 2-1 win over Red Bull Salzburg.
It secured their qualification for the Round of 16, which begins in 2023, and a point will ensure they finish top of the group.
Potter is the first Chelsea manager to go unbeaten in his first four Champions League games since a certain Roberto Di Matteo.
And what did he do after that…keep winning it all, of course.
The Blues are also strangely in Group E, the same one they were in in the 2011/12 season.
Bizarre coincidence or destiny? We’ll let you be the judge, but Chelsea fans are indulging their minds on Twitter.
Potter had an impressive start to life in the hot seat at Stamford Bridge.
He is unbeaten in nine matches, having won six and drawn the other three. The Blues scored 16 goals and conceded just four, securing five clean sheets in the process.
As Chelsea won the Champions League title a decade ago, Potter was at Ostersund, leading them to their second consecutive promotion and the second level Swedish football.
Speaking after the win over Salzburg, Potter said: “It’s a top level competition. It’s amazing and fantastic to be involved, a real test against a fantastic team and a great experience to come to these venues and experience a Champions League away game. It’s challenging and challenging, but I really enjoyed it.
