Governor of Kerala acting as an SSR tool: Pinarayi Vijayan

Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has slammed Governor Arif Mohammad Khan after his decision to call for the resignation of Vice Chancellors (VCs) of nine universities in the state sparked a political storm and said that it “acted as an RSS tool.”

“The governor is abusing the office of chancellor to wield more power than he holds. This is undemocratic and an encroachment on the powers of the VC. The office of governor is not to act against the government, but to uphold the dignity of the constitution. It acts as a tool of RSS,” Vijayan said.

Earlier, the ruling CPI(M) had called the governor’s move an “attempt to appoint members of the RSS” to head universities, while the opposition Congress-led UDF had hailed it.

Referring to a recent Supreme Court order quashing the appointment of Vice Chancellor (VC) of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University for violating UGC regulations, Khan recently called for the resignation of VCs from nine universities in the state by Monday morning at 11:30 a.m.
