Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Friday a reward of $ 50,000 for information that leads to arrest and conviction in an unresolved murder at MESA from 2021.
Cornelius Brown, 21, was shot down in the door of his apartment La Mesa early on the morning of April 24, 2021.
Since then, the investigators of the MESA police service have “exhausted all the avenues of investigation and asked that a reward be offered to encourage anyone with information on this murder” to contact the department, the governor’s office said in a statement.
Brown, a navy master assigned to Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, was killed around 12:30 p.m. after responding to his door while he was organizing a rally. He was confronted with two masked individuals, one of whom pulled several times on Brown.
Brown was struck and transported to the hospital where he died.
At the beginning of 2024, San Diego Crime Stoppers, Brown family and other Navy members united their forces to offer a reward of $ 15,000 for information in the case.
“Someone knows something, and I hope we can encourage this person to manifest themselves and share information that leads to an arrest,” Mesa police lieutenant Katy Lynch said last year. “We would like information that points to us in the right direction.”
The offer comes from the Governor’s award program, a Californian law that allows agencies to request awards in unresolved cases to encourage people to manifest themselves.
On Friday, the governor announced a total of $ 200,000 in awards for unresolved cases through the State, notably at MESA, in the County of San Mateo, the County of Kings and the County of Sonoma.
Anyone with information on Brown is advised to contact the MESA police. Royce Culp at 619-667-7533.
