‘Baby Reindeer’, ‘Mr. and Mrs Smith’ and ‘Colin From Accounts’.

Baby Reindeer, Mr. and Mrs. Smith And Colin Accounts were the big winners at the first-ever Gotham TV Awards ceremony, which took place Tuesday evening in New York.

Accept for a revolutionary limited series, the final price of the evening, Baby reindeer Star and creator Richard Gadd offered a thoughtful observation on the popularity of the Netflix series and some advice for anyone going through a tough time.

“It’s weird that a show as screwed up as this could touch so many people,” Gadd said of the darkly comedic thriller. “I think it speaks to the fact that a lot of people in the world are struggling right now. I don’t know much about advice, but I do know that nothing lasts forever. So if you’re in a rut, keep going. Persevere, persevere, persevere and I promise things will get better.

Early, Colin Accounts swept the comedy categories, winning Breakthrough Comedy Series and Outstanding Performance in a Comedy Series (Harriet Dyer).

Accepting both awards, co-creator and star Dyer said she was “overwhelmed” and dedicated the honors to her husband and Colin Accounts co-creator and fellow star Patrick Brammall, whom she called “the other half of this show” and said she “couldn’t do the show without him”.

But she noted that Brammall was back in Australia looking after their child, “because fuck the patriarchy,” she said with a laugh, the comment earning cheers from the audience.

In the drama categories, Mr and Mrs Smith won a breakthrough drama series, although the award was accepted by executive producer Anthony Katagas and not co-creators Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane, while 3 Body ProblemZine Tseng of , won Outstanding Performance in a Drama Series.

Tseng seemed genuinely surprised by her victory, telling the audience and The Hollywood Reporter before Tuesday night’s show, his “money was on someone else” to win.

Joking on stage that she was “very sober,” Tseng also said it was her first time being nominated for anything and it was her first time in New York.

Of the city, Tseng said, “it smells like a big gas station and danger and freedom at the same time.”

The limited series categories have also been divided with Baby reindeer win first prize and RipleyAndrew Scott’s Andrew Scott won Outstanding Performance in a Limited Series, which was accepted by Ripley creator Steven Zaillian, who said on stage that he wasn’t sure where his star was.

The Breakthrough Nonfiction Series Award went to Jerrod Carmichael’s Reality TV Show.

During his acceptance speech, Carmichael said, “I want to thank the team for trying to find the truth and making it entertaining.”

He then joked to the audience, “Congratulations to everyone on the network-sponsored trips. Please get as much money for it as possible.

The Gotham TV Awards also honored Law and Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay, The crown creator Peter Morgan and Expatriates designer Lulu Wang.

Stephanie March presented the birthday tribute to her close friend and former co-star Hargitay.

“I get to go to work every day on a show that makes people feel less alone,” Hargitay said during his speech. “This is one of the most devastating effects of sexual assault: domestic violence is isolation.”

She praised Law & Order: SVU to tell the stories of women and survivors “across the spectrum of gender identity.”

“This is a show about treating people who have been hurt with care and dignity and compassion and empathy and kindness after they’ve experienced some of the worst things we’ve done to each other,” he said. Hargitay said.

The crown actress Lesley Manville presented the Creator Tribute to Morgan.

Morgan began by describing an initial meeting he had with Netflix in January 2014 in “a small shared office in Beverly Hills.”

“For once, and I honestly think this is the only time in my career, I walked into the right room at the right time and presented something that people wanted to hear,” Morgan said of The crown, which aired its sixth and final season in late 2023. “Television just isn’t what it used to be. “The world came to know her thanks to The farewell but after traveling the world with the film and after the film completely changed my life, I couldn’t even say goodbye to her and I never got to thank her,” Wang said of her grandmother . “There was so much I didn’t get a chance to say and Expatriates became a meditation on grief and the humility of uncertainty.

The Gotham Film & Media Institute announced less than two months ago that it would separate the television awards that had, for the past decade, been presented as part of the main Gotham Awards film and television ceremony that usually takes place after Thanksgiving.

The following month, The Gotham announced the nominees in seven categories (Breakthrough Comedy, Drama, Limited Series and Nonfiction and Outstanding Performance in Comedy, Drama and Limited Series) for the Gotham TV Awards. Like the Gotham Film Awards, the television awards categories are gender neutral.

The timing of the new TV awards ceremony was praised early on by presenter Joel Kim Booster, who said it was “so much nicer than coming to the film awards in the dead of winter”.

His co-anchor Susie Essman jokingly responded, “You people in Los Angeles are so lame.” Just put on a coat and you’ll be fine. And she welcomed the audience to the start of a New York summer, or as she called it, “the hot garbage-smelling season.”

The curse, Shogun And Bodkin earned three nominations each, followed by the following double nominees: Colin Accounts, Gen V, Fallout, Black Cake, Baby Reindeer, Under the Bridge, Ripley And The sympathizer. Colin Accounts was the only project to win multiple awards, excluding all triple nominees. Gotham TV Awards nominations were selected by committees of critics, journalists, programmers and curators. The winners were determined by separate juries made up of writers, directors, actors, producers, editors and others directly involved in the making of television and film.

During the 2023 Gotham Awards, which also took place before the 2023 Emmys delayed by the strike, Beef, which received the most nominations in the TV categories with three nominations, won the TV awards with two awards (two nominations were in the same category).
