Gophers rolls against Belmont for the WBIT title

As a journalist on television, was trying to interview him on the ground at Historic Hinkle Fieldhouse, after having used his biggest scene to have his biggest match to date, Tori McKinney has done his best to respect his teammates in WBIT tournament championship t-shirts above his head.

All she could do was smile.

But then there was a lot to be happy. Few university basketball teams end their season with a victory. Gophers became one of them with a 75-63 victory against Belmont in the WBIT final on the Butler University campus in Indianapolis.

“I think it’s a big step,” McKinney told journalists in the post-match of Indianapolis.

She was talking about her team, of course. But she could have talked about herself. McKinney, a first -year guard of Minnetonka, struck 10 of the 14 shots and four of the seven three points and scored a 26 -point career summit.

She also had three interceptions, helped to track down the Bruins (26-13) in shots of 33.3%, and collected three assists while being named the most remarkable player in the tournament.

McKinney scored seven points in the start of the Minnesota match. She had nine of the 18 points of the minnesota in the first quarter, 10 of the 19 points of the team in the second quarter and seven at the start of 13-3 in the third quarter which put the gophers (25-11) up 24.

“I’m so proud of her,” said Junior striker Mallory Heyer, who had a lot to be proud of her, but more about it later. “She was everywhere this evening. She was hitting big blows, she celebrated, she was in it. And on the defensive? She just did an excellent job for us, she did all the season. I am so proud of her to end this way.”
