Google’s Ai Gemini arrives in Chrome

Google adds its gemini ai assistant to Chrome, the company announced to Google I / O Tuesday.

Initially, Gemini will be able to “clarify complex information on any web page that you read or summarize information”, according to a blog article by Google Labs and VP Gemini Josh Woodward. Google plans that Gemini in Chrome “will work later on several tabs and will sail on your behalf”.

I saw a demo during a briefing before Tuesday’s announcement. In Chrome, you will see a small sparkling icon in the upper right corner. Click on this and a Gemini Chatbot window will open – it is a floating user interface that you can move and resize. From there, you can ask questions about the website.

In the demo, Charmaine d’Ilva, director of product management of the Chrome team, opened a page for a sleeping bag in Rei and clicked on a suggested Gemini prompt to list the main characteristics of the bag. Gemini read the whole page and listed a quick summary of the bag. D’Alva then asked if the sleeping bag was a good option for camping in Maine, and Gemini to Chrome responded by drawing information from the REI page and the web.

After that, Alva went to a shopping page on the website of another retailer for a different sleeping bag and asked Gemini to compare the two sleeping bags. Gemini did it and included a comparison table.

You can initially maintain a conversation with Gemini when you sail from the tab tab. But “later in the year”, Gemini in Chrome will allow you to select several tabs at a time and ask a question about each of them.

D’Alva has also shown a demo of a feature that will be available in the future: using Gemini to browse websites. In the demo, from Silva pulled live Gemini in Chrome to help navigate a recipe site. D’Alva asked Gemini to scroll through the ingredients, and the AI zipped to this part of the page. He also replied when D’Alva asked for helping the required quantity of cup sugar to grams.

In Google’s selected demos, Gemini in Chrome seems that it could sometimes be useful, especially with comparison tables or ingredient conversions at the time. I just prefer to read the website or do my own research instead of reading the Summaries of Gemini, especially since the AI can hallucinate incorrect information.

Gemini to Chrome launches on Wednesday. It will initially publish on Windows and MacOS in early access to 18 -year -old or over users who use English as a language. It will be available for people who subscribe to the AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions from Google or users of Chrome’s Beta, Canary and Dev Channels, Parisa Tabriz, VP and GM from Google de Chrome, in the briefing.

As for bringing Gemini to Mobile Chrome, “this is an area that we will think of,” says Tabriz, but at the moment, the company is “very focused on the desktop”.

Correction, May 20: Gemini in Chrome can maintain a conversation when you pass from the tab tab; It does not only work on two tabs, as we initially reported.
